Steve Peletz

Steve Peletz studies film production at City College of San Francisco and is working on a documentary about shark carnage at the hands of humans and shark research and conservation expeditions in the Pacific Ocean.

He explores our oceans as a volunteer research diver, an underwater photographer, filmmaker, and open water swimmer. Steve has logged over 3,000 dives in the Pacific and around the world filming marine ecosystems and marine life including sharks, whales, rays, dolphins, sea lions, and many species of fish and invertebrates.

Steve manages DeepBlueMonthly.com which publishes information on scientific diving, marine research, and conservation.

After years as a volunteer research diver, Steve joined the Board of MigraMar, a group of marine biologists dedicated to tagging and tracking migratory species of sharks, whales, turtles and fish in the Eastern Pacific and pushing governments in the Americas to protect larger areas in the ocean.

In addition to studying film production at City College of San Francisco, Steve recently joined the screening committee for San Francisco’s International Ocean Film Festival. He hopes to shed light on the beauty and the many tragedies he sees in the oceans currently.
